BE AT PEACE WITH YOURSELF SO THAT YOU CAN BE AT PEACE WITH OTHERS

“There are some people who live in peace with themselves, and are also at peace with others.

There are some who neither enjoy peace in their own lives, nor leave others in peace.

They are a burden to other people and even more of a burden to themselves.

There are others who not only keep themselves in peace but are always ready to guide others back to peace.

Now, all our peace in this miserable life is found in humbly enduring suffering rather than in being free from it.

He who knows best how to suffer will enjoy the greater peace.

Because he is the conqueror of himself, the master of the world, a friend of Christ, and an heir of heaven."

ON BLASPHEMERS

Saint Bernardino of Siena calls blasphemers infernal men, incarnate demons, citizens of Hell, companions of demons, evil souls and traitors; and he says that just as through language one comes to know the country or nation of which someone speaks, so also those destined for Hell are known for their blasphemies, and they start practicing the blasphemies they will say eternally in Hell.

ON INDECENT FASHION

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina speaks of indecent fashion:

“I desire that all of you, my spiritual children, fight by your good example and without any human respect, a holy battle against indecent fashion. God will be with you and you He will save! The woman that seeks vanity in her dress can never belong to Christ, and these same lose every adornment of the soul the very moment these idols enter into their hearts. Being watchful of every vanity in their hearts, because the Lord permits the fall of these souls for such vanity.”

TRUE LOVE

True love grows with difficulties; the false one goes out. From experience we know that when we endure difficult trials for someone we love, love does not collapse, but grows. “Many waters (that is many tribulations) cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it” (Cant. 8:7). And so, the saints, who endure trials for God, strengthen their love with it; it is like an artist, who becomes more fond of the work that costs him the most”.

GOD CALLS YOU PERSONALLY

God beholds you individually whoever you are. He calls you by your name.

He sees you and understands you as He made you. He knows what is in you, all your peculiar feelings and thoughts, your dispositions and likings, your strength and your weakness.

He views you in your day of rejoicing and in your day of sorrow. He sympathizes in your hopes and your temptations. He interests Himself in all your anxieties and remembrances, all the risings and fallings of your spirit.

He has numbered the hairs of your head and the cubits of your stature; He compasses you round and bears you in His arms; He takes you up and sets you down.

He notes your very countenance, whether smiling or in tears, whether healthful or sickly. He looks tenderly upon your hands and your feet; He hears your voice, the beating of your heart, and your very breathing.

You do not love yourself better than He loves you.

You cannot shrink from pain more than He dislikes you bearing it; and if He puts it on you, it is as if you would put it on yourself if you were wise, for a greater good afterwards. You are chosen to be His. You were one of those for whom Christ offered up His life and sealed it with his precious blood.

PRAYER TO OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL BY SAINT JOHN BERCHMANS

"Holy Angel, beloved of God, who after having taken me, by divine disposition, under your blessed custody, you never cease to defend me, enlighten me and direct me: I venerate you as my protector, I love you as my custodian; I submit to your direction and I give myself to you, to be governed by you. For the love of Jesus Christ I beg you, that when I am ungrateful to you and stubbornly deaf to your inspirations, do not abandon me despite this; on the contrary, put me soon on the straight path, if I have strayed from it; teach me, if I am ignorant; lift me up, if I have fallen; help me, if I am in danger and lead me to Heaven to possess eternal happiness”. Amen."

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
